wood
I requested a chunk of the wood and also that it be chopped into the spherical form shown below after the wood was recovered on campus by where they were felling the tree.
The bee comb pattern served as the model for the wood jewelry piece that will be constructed.
Burning it off to turn it black was the first stage in creating the jewelry item.
the next step is to drill tiny holes into the wood to create a pattern that resembles a honeycomb.
Following came the process of creating granulation and applying it to the wooden jewelry item to mimic bees in a bee comb.
The wood and metal were joined together with nails, however the initial design for the piece was flawed since the wood developed cracks while I was driving the nails in.
I choose to take a break from the piece and concentrate on other pieces.
