Paper and cans experiment

The dome block is used to dome the gathered cans.

The bottoms of cans are flattened using a chasing hammer.

The paper experiment began with the creation of a paper mash by socking paper into water.

I had to put Vaseline on the plastic since I wanted to experiment with different shapes of paper mash patterns. After it is dry, Vaseline prevents it from clinging to the plastic.

The experiment is still ongoing because I want to drill some of the shapes to see if I can manufacture beads out of the paper mash, and some of the shapes are built out of the cans domes.

I attempted to construct a woman figure out of paper mash in the style of African sculpture, with the breast of the woman formed from domed cans and paper mash built on them, and the stomach constructed from a 2L coke bottle cap.

The woman figure took a few days to dry, and the construction was flat. I discovered from my research that the structure must be built from wires first, so it can have dimensions.

The next experiment is done by creating moulds for the shapes using brass rings that I made in various sizes.

The paper mush was forced through the brass molds to make the shapes shown above, and the next experiment will be to pour resin into them to see if it can work on the paper mush.
